BRIAN STORM VS SPIKE ROGERS IN A STREET FIGHT AT KING'S FITNESS CENTER IN PINEVILE.
(THE HEEL XTREN, WITH RIOT AT RINGSIDE, PUT ON ONE OF HIS BEST MATCHES WITH THE POPULAR TONY GLORY. GLORY, EVEN AFTER BEING ATTACKED BY RIOT, BEAT THE ODDS TO WIN THE MATCH.
BRIAN STORM HAD BEEN ATTACKED BY SPIKE AND DUSTIN FOR WEEKS AND WEEKS. STORM HAD GOTTEN VICTORIES OVER BOTH MEMBERS OF TEAM GREATNESS BUT THEY HAD USED ILLEGEAL TACTICS TO DEFEAT STORM ON SEVERAL OCCASINS. FINALLY, BRIAN HAD HAD ENOUGH AND HE CHALLENGED DDD TO A STREET FIGHT BUT SPIKE TOOK DUSTIN'S PLACE AND IN THE END STORM HAD WON THE MATCH. THIS VICTORY GRADUATED BRIAN FROM MID-CARDER STATUS TO MAIN-EVENTER STATUS.
THE SST TAG MATCH WAS ON IT'S WAY TO BEING CROWNED AS BEST MATCH UNTIL THE 4 CORNERS MATCH HAPPENED. DAMN, THESE TWO MATCHES WERE AWESOME. AND THEY WERE CAUGHT ON VIDEO, TOO.)
----------------------------------------------------
TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR:
WINNER: TEAM GREATNESS
RUNNER UP: VIOLENT BY NATURE
BOLD & BEAUTIFUL
THE DARKSIDE
(THE TAG DIVISION WAS A HARD ONE. ALL FOUR TEAMS HAD GOOD REASONS TO BE NUMBER ONE. BOLD WORKED AS A TEAM THE LONGEST. DDD AND SPIKE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TOGETHER BUT THEY WORKED MOST OF THE TIME IN SINGLES MATCHES. BUT WHEN THEY DID TAG THEY WERE, WELL, GREAT...NESS. VIOLENT WAS DEFINATELY THE MOST CREATIVE AND ROWDY. THE DARKSIDE WAS THE MOST POPULAR AND EXECUTED GREAT TAG MATCHES.
----------------------------------------------------
AND NOW THE TOP AWARD. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, HERE IS THE 2002 P.A. AWARDS WINNER FOR WRESTLER OF THE YEAR:
WRESTLER OF THE YEAR:
WINNER: KID GRUNGE
1ST RUNNER UP: BRIAN STORM
2ND RUNNERS UP: THE REBEL/RIOT/DDD/PAUL MICHAELS (TIE)
(I'M NOT DISSING ANY OF THE WORKERS BUT THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT GRUNGE WAS THE MAN IN 2002. HE HAD THAT GREAT FEUD WITH OUTLAW OVER THE APPALACHIAN TITLE, WHICH PUSHED THE HELL OUT OF THAT TITLE, AND WON THE HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE ON AT LEAST TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. HE HEADLINED MORE MAIN EVENTS THAN ANY ONE AND ALSO DID A LOT OF TRAVELLING TO WORK FOR VARIOUS OTHER PROMOTIONS.
BRIAN STORM MAY SHOCK SOME OF YOU THAT HE WAS THE NUMBER 2 MAN FOR THE YEAR. STORM WAS NOT ONLY EASY TO WORK WITH BUT HE PUT ON SOME OF THE BEST MATCHES OF THE YEAR, INCLUDING THE STREET FIGHT WITH SPIKE ROGERS. STORM HAS GROWN AS A WORKER OVER THIS YEAR AND HAS NEVER LET ME DOWN AS A BOOKER OR A FAN. HIS HARD WORK AND DETERMINATION REMINDS ME OF KID GRUNGE IN '99. THERE IS A STORM ON THE RISING, FOLKS.
THE REBEL TIES FOR 2ND RUNNER UP? YEP, AND HE DESERVES TO BE LOOKED UP TO BY THE UP AND COMERS AND THE ESTABLISHED STARS. REBEL HAS BEEN A FAVORITE TO WATCH IN THE RING FOR YEARS. THIS YEAR HE STEPPED UP TO WOW THE CROWD WITH SOME SHOCKING MOVES, SUCH AS BUSTING A BLOCK OVER THE CHEST OF JT FUNK WITH A SLEDGEHAMMER. THE GREAT THING ABOUT REBEL IS HE KNOWS WHEN TO TAKE A STEP BACK AND NOT BE IN THE SPOTLIGHT. HE WANTS HIS OPPONENTS TO SHINE EVEN MORE THAN HIM.
RIOT CAPTURED THE MSWF TITLE EARLIER IN THE YEAR AND WAS A GREAT CHAMPION BUT THE BOOKING COMMITTEE AT THAT TIME DIDN'T DO A GOOD JOB OF SHOWCASING THE TALENTS OF RIOT. HIS TITLE REIGN WASN'T GIVEN ENOUGH TIME TO LEAD TO GREAT FEUDS WITH THE LIKES OF GRUNGE OR REBEL. FOR SOME REASON THE MSWF CHAMPION WAS BEING PUT IN TAG MATCHES. BUT WHEN RIOT DID HEADLINE THE SHOW HE GAVE THE FANS ALL HE HAD TO LEAVE THEM SATISFIED. RIOT WAS SO POPULAR THAT A HEEL TURN REALLY DIDN'T WORK.
THE FIRST HALF OF THE YEAR, DUSTIN DOUGLAS WAS DA MAN. HE WAS THE HATED MSWF CHAMPION, CHEATING HIS WAY TO VICTORIES OVER GRUNGE, RIOT, STORM, SUPER SEXY, AND RYAN DOOKIE. AS DDD WOULD SAY, "I SHOULD BE WORLD CHAMPION." WELL, THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS, WHEN DDD WAS CHAMPION HE WAS PUT IN MATCHES WHERE WHOEVER HE WAS WORKING GOT HUGE POPS. DDD'S NEXT REIGN WILL BE EVEN BETTER. THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR, DDD WAS PUT IN TAG MATCHES WITH SPIKE AND WENT ON TO WIN THE TAG STRAPS. A FOOT INJURY KEPT HIM OUT OF ACTION FOR A WHILE BUT ON HIS RETURN, HE PARTICIPATED IN THE BEST MATCH OF THE YEAR.
ANOTHER TOP PERFORMER THIS YEAR WAS PAUL MICHAELS. HE ALSO CARRIED THE TOP SPOT EARLY IN THE YEAR. HIS MATCHES WITH DDD, SPIKE AND SOUTHERN OUTLAW DID NOTHING BUT ADD TO THE EXCITEMENT OF A SUPER SEXY MATCH. FROM HIS DMX INTRO TO HIS FINISHER, "THE ANSWER", SUPER SEXY ALWAYS ENTERTAINED BUT HATED TO BE IN THE SPOTLIGHT EVEN THOUGH HE DESERVED IT.
LATER HE RE-DEFINED HIMSELF AS A TAG TEAM WRESTLER WITH THE LIKES OF KID GRUNGE AND RYAN DOOKIE. SUPER SEXY'S WORK BEHIND THE SCENES WAS ONE OF THE BIG REASONS THE MSWF KEPT RUNNING AND PUTTING ON GOOD SHOWS.
----------------------------------------------------
THANK YOU FOR CHECKING OUT THE "2002 P.A. AWARDS."
REMEMBER THAT THIS IS JUST MY OPINION AND YOUR OPINIONS MAY NOT AGREE WITH MINE. ALL OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED WORKERS ARE THE REASON FOR THE SUCCESS OF NOT ONLY MID-SOUTH WRESTLING IN 2002 BUT FOR INDY WRESTLING PERIOD. I'VE BEEN TO OTHER INDY SHOWS AND SEEN THEIR WORKERS. AND I HONESTLY BELIEVE THOSE WHO WORK FOR THE MSWF ARE THE CREAM OF THE CROP. SO THANK YOU MSWF WORKERS, THANKS FOR A YEAR FULL OF MEMORIES.
P.A.
THE NUMBER ONE REASON FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE INTERNET, IT'S GOOD OLE P.A.'S RANT.
NOV 11TH
SOUTHERN OUTLAW KEEPS ASKING WHEN THE NEXT RANT IS GONNA BE AND I KEEP SAYING "WHEN I HAVE SOMETHING TO RANT ABOUT." WELL I GUESS IT'S ABOUT THAT TIME.
LET'S SEE WHERE TO START. COOLER SOLD HIS SHARE OF MID-SOUTH. G MONEY APPARENTLY HAS ALSO SOLD OUT. SO WHERE DOES THAT LEAVE US. WITH TWO OWNERS? WITH ONE OWNER AND ONE SILENT PARTNER? WITH TWO OWNERS AND POSSIBLY THREE??? TO SAY THE LEAST, IT'S KINDA CONFUSING. EITHER WAY, THIS IS A WAIT-AND-SEE-WHAT HAPPENS TIME.
I EXPECT THE MSWF TO CONTINUE TO GROW AND SUCCEED WITH THE NEW OWNERS. A FORMER WRESTLER WAS TALKING TO ME ON SUNDAY AND I TOLD HIM THAT AT THE ARMORY SHOW ON THE 9TH, THE LOCKER ROOM WAS CALM AND EVERYBODY WAS COOL WITH WHAT THEY WERE GIVEN. YOU CAN'T PUT ON A GOOD SHOW UNLESS THE LOCKER ROOM IS TIGHT. THAT NIGHT IT WAS TIGHT. NOW IF THE SHOW ON NOV 16TH GOES AS SMOOTHLY, THEN WE MAY NOT HAVE ANY WORRIES.
WITH A GOOD LOCATION WE CAN PUT ON BETTER SHOWS AND OFFER THE FANS A BETTER VARIETY OF TALENT. HOPEFULLY WE CAN GET THE PART-TIMERS LIKE SOUTHERN OUTLAW AND JERRY LEE, HELLRAISER, STEELE, GAZMO, DAREDEVIL, CHUCK LEE, DRAKE BARR, GHETTO SUPERSTAR, AND OVERKILL ON A REGULAR BASIS. THOSE GUYS KNOW THEY ARE APPRECIATED EVERYTIME THEY COME THRU THE DOOR. PLUS THEY ARE TALENTED AND EASY TO WORK WITH.
THERE'S A FEW MORE DETAILS THAT NEED TO BE WORKED OUT AND THEN THE MSWF WILL BE "THE" PLACE TO WORK FOR. BECAUSE THE NEW OWNERS ARE GOING TO DO EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO MAKE SURE THE PAYOFFS ARE TAKEN CARE OF, THAT NEW MATERIALS ARE BOUGHT TO DRESS UP THE RING AND RINGSIDE AREA, AND PRETTY MUCH A MORE PROFESSIONAL APPREANCE IN FRONT OF THE FANS AND BACKSTAGE. IT'S A HUGE TASK WHICH WILL TAKE A WHILE BUT IN THE END MSWF WILL BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY.
NOW ONTO THE SHOWS THEMSELVES.
WE'VE HAD TWO SHOWS AT THE LONDON ARMORY AND WE'VE HAD TWO GREAT TURNOUTS AND WITH WHAT WE GAVE THEM THERE SHOULD BE EVEN MORE AT THIS WEEKENDS SHOW.
THE NOV 9TH SHOW FEATURED NOT ONE BUT THREE MATCHES THAT GAVE THE FANS THEIR MONEYS WORTH. LUGER AND STORM HOOKED UP FOR A THIRD MATCH AND THEY WORKED THEIR HEARTS OUT. I WAS EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH THAT MATCH. MATCH OF THE YEAR NOMINEE.
ANOTHER MATCH OF THE YEAR NOMINEE WAS THE 4-CORNERS MATCH FOR THE TAG TEAM TITLES. I KNOW WHAT SPIKE AND DUSTIN, VIOLENT BY NATURE, AND THE DARKSIDE CAN DO IN THE RING, BUT I WAS HIGHLY IMPRESSED BY STEELE AND GAZMO. THE MATCH WAS GREAT FROM START TO FINISH DESPITE THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE IN AND AROUND THE RING.
AND THE LADDER MATCH FOR THE HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE WAS BREATHTAKING ESPECIALLY AROUND THE END WHEN GRUNGE AND HELLRAISER TOOK SOME SPILLS FROM THE LADDERS. REBEL WAS, AS ALWAYS, AT THE TOP OF HIS GAME AND REALLY SHOULD HAVE MORE TV TIME. GRUNGE IS THE MAN BUT REBEL IS RIGHT ON HIS HEELS. DAREDEVIL, WHO WAS PUT IN THE MAIN EVENT ON HIS REPUTATION ALONE, REALLY WASN'T GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY TO PERFORM AT HIS LEVEL. SO HIS NEXT MATCH IS GONNA BE A SINGLES MATCH SO WE CAN SEE WHAT HE REALLY HAS TO OFFER. HE WAS HIGHLY PRAISED BY TWO MSWF WORKERS AND THAT'S ONE REASON I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HIM WORK IN A LESS CHAOTIC MATCH.
BUT ANYWAY, IN CONCLUSION THE NEXT FEW WEEKS WILL DEFINATELY BE THE TIME TO WATCH MSWF.
P.S. THE TOP TEN IS JUST A WORK...
